“Spare a Pound to Spend a Penny”.
The last few years have been a very exciting time at the Minster. In addition to the many charity and community events and projects we regularly host, we have started to develop much more ambitious partnerships with groups such as ‘Right Up Our Street’ to deliver huge events like the ‘Museum of the Moon’ and the Tectonic light show. We have been delighted to welcome thousands of people from South Yorkshire and beyond to these events.
However, we feel that the Minster could do much more for people in our community if we had basic toilet and kitchen facilities. This would not only equip this historic building with facilities essential for its survival in the twenty-first century, it would also enable us to be a much more accessible and welcoming venue for the thousands of visitors and groups who use the Minster each year.
The Minster belongs to you, the community of Doncaster and to the nation! We’ve done some amazing things together over the years, but we need your help. We want to provide you with a much better refreshment and rest area to make sure we’re fit for the future. The hard work is done and we’re almost there.
Every donation will make a difference.
So, can you help us to end the ‘walk of dread’ outside the Minster and round to St George’s House (or worse still to portaloos) on a sometimes dark, cold, wet or icy night? Please “Spare a Pound to spend a Penny”?
We welcome all donations whether large or small, and thank you for your generosity
If you are a UK taxpayer, you can increase your gift by 25p for every £1 you donate at no cost to yourself. Please download a Gift Aid Declaration form here, complete it and send it to The Minster Office, St George House, Church Street, Doncaster, DN1 1RD
What we’ll deliver.
- 3 Accessible toilets
- 1 Disabled Toilet
- 1 Baby Change Facility
- Fully equipped foldaway refreshment servery with running water.
- A dedicated flexible space for wheelchairs/pushchairs/tables and chairs
- Overall a much more welcoming and accessible social space for everyone.
Why it’s a great idea
There is no drinking water in the Minster, making serving refreshments a logistical challenge to bring water, crockery, coffee and tea etc. to the Minster.
Steps to get it done
We have all the permissions we need to make this happen, and we now have 74% of the total money, but need one last push to get the final amount we need. We already have architect’s plans and will go out to tender for specialist builders to install the facilities once the money has been raised.
Once we have contracted with a suitable builder, we hope to have the toilets and servery installed by Spring 2021, ready to start a new year and hopefully to re-start all the events that have been disrupted this year.
